Israeli Male Art by Y. Shamir
A worker coming to clean the garden, a shop assistant, a passing student, or a random technician: any one of them could serve as a model for Y. Shamir (Yeshayahu Shamir). A veteran artist, painter, sculptor, and designer, Shamir creates figurative expressive art, capturing Israeli men through illustration and drawing across a variety of techniques. Shamir has showcased his artwork in exhibitions both in Israel and abroad, including at the Ramat Gan Museum, the Haifa Museum of Art, the Bank Hapoalim Annual Art Exhibition, the Tel Aviv Artists' House, as well as in New York, Los Angeles, Düsseldorf, and beyond.
Shamir pursued his professional career as a designer and art director for about five decades, following his graduation from the Avni Institute. Art has been an integral part of his professional life as a designer, earning him awards and honors in design competitions. Concurrently, throughout all these years, he has continued to create paintings, silkscreens, sculptures, laser cuts, and more, displaying them in both private and public galleries.
Drawing with a clean, continuous line, Shamir captures a precise moment and atmosphere through his subject's facial expression and posture in record time, using minimal yet powerful tools of line and color. Shamir does not belong to the LGBTQ+ community; he was introduced to Fan Gallery, which specializes in male body art, through his wife. He notes that Israeli men feel more comfortable posing as models than women do, which is why he primarily paints men.
His solo exhibition will feature a rich and diverse selection of his works created over the years, including drawings, sculptures, and canvas paintings.
All artworks are available for purchase.
